Popcorn Birthday Cupcakes

  1. PAM® Original No-Stick Cooking Spray
  2. 1 bag (99 g each) Orville Redenbacher's® Gourmet® Buttery Flavour Microwave Popcorn
  3. 1/2 cup margarine
  4. 1 cup granulated sugar
  5. 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  6. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  7. 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  8. 1 container (16 oz or 454 g) ready-to-spread frosting
  9. Birthday candles, optional
  10. Candy sprinkles, optional

Start a fun family tradition with Popcorn Birthday Cupcakes—a different twist to cake cupcakes! Simply make popcorn balls, shape into muffin tins, and then frost the top.


  1. Preheat oven to 300°F.
  2. Spray 13x9-inch baking pan and twelve 2-1/2-inch muffin cups with cooking spray.
  3. Prepare popcorn according to package directions.
  4. Remove any unpopped kernels.
  5. Spread popped corn evenly in baking pan.
  6. Melt margarine in medium saucepan over medium-high heat.
  7. Add sugar, corn syrup and salt; bring to a boil.
  8. Boil 2 minutes stirring constantly; remove from heat.
  9. Stir in baking soda; mix well.
  10. Pour over popcorn and toss gently to coat evenly.
  11. Bake 5 minutes, stirring once halfway through baking.
  12. Remove from oven; stir well.
  13. Cool 5 minutes.
  14. Spray hands with cooking spray.
  15. Divide popcorn mixture into 12 portions; shape each portion in each muffin cup to resemble a cupcake.
  16. Spread frosting on the top mounded part of each popcorn cupcake.
  17. Add sprinkles and candle, if desired. Store in tightly sealed container.
